Ok I'll ask this: How do you deal with the distorted egos & shadiness rampant in the music scene? To be specific, I have dealt with "cut-throat" style shadiness amongst my peers regarding gigs etc.
wow - that's quite the question. i do my best to surround myself with people i really believe in and they are my immediate personal and professional circle. others that i dont know, i'll trust my intuition and ask around for other's experiences of them if i can. if someone burns me then i never work with them again. if someone's ego is out of line, i generally won't spend my energy, time or creativity on them. fortunately i'm able to avoid a lot of those types the possibly proliferate the more mainstream end of the industry more than where i like to operate. at the end of the day, i'm blessed to work with people i like, respect and treat me similarly. as for your peers being cut-throat, recognize them for how they are and interact with them accordingly based on what you know is a truth. if you keep going back for more, already knowing where they're at, then it's on you. focus on the good people and invest good energy in your art. it will always come back multiplied.
